Theoretical solution for drained cylindrical cavity expansion in clays with fabric anisotropy and structure

Abstract This paper presents a novel, exact, semi-analytical solution for the quasi-static drained expansion of cylindrical cavity in soft soils with fabric anisotropy and structure. The assumed constitutive model is S-CLAY1S model, which Cam clay-type that considers evolves plastic strains, structure gradual degradation bonding (destructuration) due to straining. involves numerical integration system eight first-order ordinary differential equations, three them corresponding effective stresses coordinates, other components tensor one amount another specific volume. validated against finite element analyses. When destructuration considered, provides slightly lower values radial mean near wall. Besides, volume further reduced loss bonding.
